Geology and JavaScript
Like Father Like Son: Interpretation of Data is important
My dad loves Geology. Not as much as other things in life, like God and family, but he loves it. Today is his last day of work at ExxonMobil before he retires! He was there for 34 years. I’ve been coding and learning JavaScript as a hobby for about 3.4 months. He’s further in his game — regardless of that I couldn’t help but notice a similarity between the two fields. Both enjoy interpreting data.
Geologists will look at geologic data and make educated guesses as to what type of resources might be available under the surface (eg oil and gas).
Coders will look at code and have to interpret it to make sense in human terms not just computer terms.
While coding may be more rigid in that this = that, there is still a layer of expertise needed to be good at doing either subject. The more you learn, the more you’re able to properly interpret what the data is saying.
Once you’re good enough, then people will pay the big bucks.
